really truly Feelings about coming back to my hometown and seeing it as an outsider (I only knew it as a child with my motion constrained by school and parents and being under 18) and an outsider (it's changed since I've been away these last 8 years) and an outsider (showing it to my partner and finding it both familiar and unfamiliar, and special and inadequate) and an outsider (my parents and sister have all moved and my childhood home is no longer mine - staying in a building with a door code to learn and furniture still being moved in) and an outsider (my favorite places have changed, moved, closed, repainted) and an outsider (new murals! new buildings! new bike lanes) and an outsider (how the Fuck do the bike lanes on the east bank connect) and an outsider (it's changed [you can never step in the same river twice] and I have too)
#i think I need to make art about this#wanting to show off the things I love about it and realizing so much of that love is for the mundane details and tiny quotidian things#seeing people in the bike lanes and feeling the pang of just Being Around People Enjoying the Outdoors#how much fun you can have for free#at the same time not having lived here at all as an adult#i don't know the public transit here! i biked when it wasn't snowy and when it was snowy i was in school til like 9 pm#i don't know the flashy fun city things i know where me and my cousins would go to have a pretzel and maybe a beer and play board games#i know where u can do martial arts for cheap and fun but that's not a nice day out to show someone it's part of being there for months#years#i know where you can get food at 1 AM but they've moved#i don't know dinkytown or any of the north side#i want to show you how good it was to be a kid here in the summer but we're not kids anymore#i want you to feel the same pang of love when passing my best friend's childhood home#ALSO!!!! saw california friends/acquaintances in the home they bought together with dual software engineer california salaries#living in MN making CA money#a huge huge 3-story-plus-basement million-plus dollar home since that means something here#you're 28 what the fuck are you doing with a nicer house than anyone I knew here ever had#'this is what you get with CA money in mpls' yeah i fucking know actually except I don't make SWE money and I don't live here anymore#i know some local mechanical engineers who have got starter homes at like 300k a few years out of school.#that's like. good for them.#anyway I'm leaving the city today and still just feeling Things about it

im a programmer and i feel this. i would hope that most programmers feel this - we are paid damn well for doing a job that's on the whole, pretty cushty. Largely working from home, making far more than the national average, to do a job that after a few years experience, should be pretty straightforward.
if ANYTHING i feel like an imposotor at times, like im cheating - there are numerous professions in which you work twice as hard for half the pay. capitalism can be real arbitrary like that.
I work as a programmer for $35 an hour.
They once forgot to pay me for 8 extra hours that they needed me to work on Thanksgiving weekend. They simply needed me to be present for 8 hours in order to quickly fix any problems that happened during their busiest weekend, and no such problems ended up happening.
When they saw the mistake and paid me for it, the gross pay for that day was $420 (base of $35 x 8 hours x 1.5 for overtime).
The first thing I noticed was how that compared to what I got paid at my warehouse job before I became a programmer. When I started the job at the warehouse, I got paid $10 an hour. For a full time week, I got paid $400.
I got paid more for that one day of doing practically nothing as a programmer than I did busting my ass at the warehouse for a whole week.
So enough about this "I work harder than them so I deserve more pay" bullshit. You're all the working class. In our fucked up system, hard work does not equal more pay. If you want more pay, you need to fight back against the rich assholes who profit off your labor and pay you jack shit, not fight with other people who are underpaid about who deserves to be more underpaid.

Avoid Costly IT Mistakes by Hiring a Professional Network Engineer
Tumblr media
Your company's digital backbone is its network infrastructure. Everything else, including data movement, security, communication, and consumer access, comes to a complete stop if it fails. Nevertheless, a lot of companies wait until it's too late to hire the best candidates. Companies need to employ network engineers who can foresee issues before they become outages if they want to stay ahead, particularly in 2025.ย
A properly constructed network keeps your organization operating efficiently, regardless of whether you're using a legacy system, cloud, or hybrid model. Avoiding downtime and safeguarding against vulnerabilities are essential for tech organizations. Here's how a qualified network engineer may help you maintain security and scalability while avoiding expensive IT mistakes.
Why Every Businessโ€”From Startups to Enterprisesโ€”Needs a Strong Network Foundation
The technologies that keep your company connected, both internally and externally, are designed, implemented, and maintained by network engineers. They are in charge of setting up switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and frequently cloud-based network components.
Inexperienced hiring practices may result in subpar architecture, bandwidth restrictions, or obvious security vulnerabilities. On the other hand, you gain performance, dependability, and peace of mind when you work with network experts who have the proper certifications.
Instead of hiring network engineers as a last resort when something goes wrong, many tech businesses are increasingly incorporating them early in their IT planning stages.
Prevent Downtime and Save on Recovery Costs
Hours or even days of service outages can result from a small network configuration error. Downtime for SaaS platforms or e-commerce companies equates to lost sales, disgruntled customers, and eroded trust.
To reduce these risks, skilled network engineers put disaster recovery procedures, redundancy systems, and proactive monitoring into place. They can swiftly isolate problems, intelligently reroute traffic, and expedite service restoration.
It becomes evident that hiring network engineers is a proactive investment rather than a one-time price when you take into account the cost of recovery, lost productivity, and even harm to your brand.
Protecting Your Business from Security Breaches
Networks that are improperly segmented or lack robust firewalls and access controls are particularly vulnerable to cyberattacks. Strong encryption will be enforced, your data paths will be secured, and suspicious activity will be monitored by a qualified network expert.
They'll also make sure your team adheres to best practices, which include using a VPN and using secure Wi-Fi. Early detection and quick containment are more important than merely prevention.
Part of the work also includes security audits. Additionally, you cannot afford to take shortcuts in this area if you are growing internationally or are subject to stringent compliance regulations.
The Role of Salary Benchmarking Tools in Hiring
How much should I pay a qualified network engineer? This is a question that many hiring managers have.
You can provide competitive pay while keeping costs down by using salary benchmarking tools. When managing hybrid teams or hiring remotely, these solutions can assist in comparing pay packages across geographical areas.
Additionally, these tools assist in justifying decisions to leadership based on expected cost versus impact if you're not sure whether to recruit internally or externally.
Network Engineers and Software Teams: A Strategic Duo
Remember that network engineers frequently collaborate closely with software developers, particularly in settings that heavily rely on DevOps. Their responsibilities overlap whether it's managing cloud rights, CI/CD pipeline setup, or API deployment.
It can be necessary to hire software engineers and network engineers simultaneously if you are growing your team in order to guarantee smooth cooperation. They work together to safeguard user data and maintain the infrastructure that runs your apps.
Tech firms benefit from fewer bottlenecks, quicker deployment cycles, and more dependable systems when both roles are in alignment.
Closing Thoughts
Make the effort to hire network engineers who are both seasoned and forward-thinking to avoid errors that are more expensive to correct than to avoid. A dependable network is not a luxury in today's constantly connected society; rather, it is the basis for expansion. Additionally, uptime is a must for tech organisations that depend on it for survival.

Common Misconceptionsย
Many salary guides do not accurately portray the average earnings in Dubai, often due to unreliable data. For instance, Payscale's reported salary range for senior software engineers stretches from $8,447 to $113,352 USD per year, a variation that results from aggregating data across different company types.

whats wrong with ai?? genuinely curious <3
okay let's break it down. i'm an engineer, so i'm going to come at you from a perspective that may be different than someone else's.
i don't hate ai in every aspect. in theory, there are a lot of instances where, in fact, ai can help us do things a lot better without. here's a few examples:
ai detecting cancer
ai sorting recycling
some practical housekeeping that gemini (google ai) can do
all of the above examples are ways in which ai works with humans to do things in parallel with us. it's not overstepping--it's sorting, using pixels at a micro-level to detect abnormalities that we as humans can not, fixing a list. these are all really small, helpful ways that ai can work with us.
everything else about ai works against us. in general, ai is a huge consumer of natural resources. every prompt that you put into character.ai, chatgpt? this wastes water + energy. it's not free. a machine somewhere in the world has to swallow your prompt, call on a model to feed data into it and process more data, and then has to generate an answer for you all in a relatively short amount of time.
that is crazy expensive. someone is paying for that, and if it isn't you with your own money, it's the strain on the power grid, the water that cools the computers, the A/C that cools the data centers. and you aren't the only person using ai. chatgpt alone gets millions of users every single day, with probably thousands of prompts per second, so multiply your personal consumption by millions, and you can start to see how the picture is becoming overwhelming.
that is energy consumption alone. we haven't even talked about how problematic ai is ethically. there is currently no regulation in the united states about how ai should be developed, deployed, or used.
what does this mean for you?
it means that anything you post online is subject to data mining by an ai model (because why would they need to ask if there's no laws to stop them? wtf does it matter what it means to you to some idiot software engineer in the back room of an office making 3x your salary?). oh, that little fic you posted to wattpad that got a lot of attention? well now it's being used to teach ai how to write. oh, that sketch you made using adobe that you want to sell? adobe didn't tell you that anything you save to the cloud is now subject to being used for their ai models, so now your art is being replicated to generate ai images in photoshop, without crediting you (they have since said they don't do this...but privacy policies were never made to be human-readable, and i can't imagine they are the only company to sneakily try this). oh, your apartment just installed a new system that will use facial recognition to let their residents inside? oh, they didn't train their model with anyone but white people, so now all the black people living in that apartment building can't get into their homes. oh, you want to apply for a new job? the ai model that scans resumes learned from historical data that more men work that role than women (so the model basically thinks men are better than women), so now your resume is getting thrown out because you're a woman.
ai learns from data. and data is flawed. data is human. and as humans, we are racist, homophobic, misogynistic, transphobic, divided. so the ai models we train will learn from this. ai learns from people's creative works--their personal and artistic property. and now it's scrambling them all up to spit out generated images and written works that no one would ever want to read (because it's no longer a labor of love), and they're using that to make money. they're profiting off of people, and there's no one to stop them. they're also using generated images as marketing tools, to trick idiots on facebook, to make it so hard to be media literate that we have to question every single thing we see because now we don't know what's real and what's not.
the problem with ai is that it's doing more harm than good. and we as a society aren't doing our due diligence to understand the unintended consequences of it all. we aren't angry enough. we're too scared of stifling innovation that we're letting it regulate itself (aka letting companies decide), which has never been a good idea. we see it do one cool thing, and somehow that makes up for all the rest of the bullshit?

How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Kubernetes Developer?
Tumblr media
Kubernetes has evolved as a major part of the modern cloud infrastructure helping your tech business to manage containerized applications at scale. From deployment automation to ensuring high availability, Kubernetes has become a vital skill for DevOps and cloud teams.ย
As the adaptation of container orchestration is expanding among businesses, the demand to hire software engineers skilled in Kubernetes is on the rise. If you too are one among this race you must know what you should pay these experts and what factors influence the cost decision.ย
Letโ€™s explore the answer to these cost considerations and how you can get the best value for your budget.ย
What Impacts the Cost of Hiring a Kubernetes Developer?
Hiring Kubernetes developers can cost different amounts depending on a number of important factors:
Experience level: DevOps and cloud certifications (such as CKA or AWS Certified) are more expensive for senior engineers.
Location: Generally speaking, developers in Western Europe and North America charge more than those in Asia or Eastern Europe.
Type of employment: There are differences in pricing between contractors, full-time workers, and freelancers.
Project complexity: Support for basic Kubernetes deployment will be less expensive than a complete cloud migration.
A rookie Kubernetes engineer, for instance, may make between $60,000 and $90,000 a year, but senior-level talent in the US might fetch $130,000 to $180,000 or more. You can utilize salary benchmarking tools to get real-time data on the salary trends in the market for a specific skill.ย
Freelance vs. Full-Time vs. Contract Developers
The total cost is impacted by your hiring process. Hereโ€™s a comparison between the top 3 hiring approaches:
Freelancers: Economical for brief assignments or minor jobs. Depending on experience, rates range from $50 to $120 per hour.
Full-time workers are ideal for long-term infrastructure requirements. This includes pay, perks, and the cost of onboarding.
You can choose to hire through an IT staffing company for prompt access to qualified personnel. Without a drawn-out hiring process, agencies assist you in finding the ideal candidate.
If you want to skip a drawn-out hiring process or need talent on-hand, many tech organizations turn to IT staffing agencies.
Cost-Saving Tips Without Compromising Quality
To properly control expenses when you hire Kubernetes developers:
Take into account remote or offshore hiring options.ย
Employ a hybrid approach that combines in-house support with a part-time Kubernetes specialist.ย
For flexible contracts and pre-screened talent, collaborate with an IT staffing company.
To stay competitive and prevent overpaying, use tools for benchmarking salaries.
Why Kubernetes Developers Are Worth the Investment
Kubernetes specialists provide significant ROI, despite their high cost. They assist to:
Increase the dependability of the app
Cut down on downtime
Automate deployment and scaling
Protect your infrastructure.
Hiring a Kubernetes developer can have a direct influence on system stability and speed-to-market for rapidly expanding IT businesses.
Summing Up
Your desired hiring methodology, experience level, and geography all affect how much it costs to hire Kubernetes developers. Cost and skill must be balanced whether you work for an IT staffing company, as a freelancer, or full-time. Additionally, Kubernetes developers become an essential component of your cloud success when combined with the appropriate group of software engineers. As a modern tech company, that counts as your money being well invested.

Musk appeared to soften his stance on the men being identified later Monday, writing it was โ€œtime to confessโ€ that the โ€œmedia reports saying that @DOGE has some of worldโ€™s best software engineers are in fact true.โ€ But he was wrongโ€”not all the group are even โ€œsoftware engineers.โ€ Three do not even have degrees. And one who does is trying to cash in on his new job by charging people to read his Substack entry which boasts, โ€œWhy DOGE: Why I gave up a seven-figure salary to save America.โ€ (...) The groupโ€™s relative lack of experienceโ€”especially no previous positions in government workโ€”has Democrats crying foul they were granted access to sensitive records while remaining largely in the shadows, away from public scrutiny. (...) โ€œRemember when Wired was focused on cutting-edge technology and how young college dropout founders could change the world?โ€ [DOGE "volunteer" Cole Killian] posted to X. โ€œNot anymore. Now, theyโ€™re doxxing DOGE employees and whining that they are too โ€œyoungโ€ and โ€˜inexperiencedโ€™ to reform Americaโ€™s government.Americaโ€™s experienced expert class have led this country to ruin. Young geniuses with a startup mentality could save it.โ€ The U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. threw his support behind Musk on the matter, writing to him Monday he would โ€œpursue any and all legal action against anyone who impedes your work or threatens your people.โ€ (...) DOGE has seemingly grown in power by the day. The department, created via an executive order on day one of Trump 2.0, was recently granted access to restricted parts of the General Services Administration buildings and access to IT systems which houses sensitive information like addresses, contact info, and even social security numbers.

I'm a real estate analyst. They want your house, bad. No one understands how you were permitted to build it. There are no records for the permits being filed. You combined two historical brownstones into one residence, which is unheard of. You added a garage and a pool, which, alone, would cost anyone over $25 million if the city would even allow for it. All this on the salary of two software engineers. It doesn't make sense. The only people capable of anything like this are Russian oligarchs and Saudi royals, and if we're being honest, neither would have the palate for something as bespoke as your home. It's a jewel. It's my Moby Dick.
